When seeking to use Australian Hunters and HSSA membership as the genuine reason for a new (or renewal) firearm license application, eligible members must first complete the ‘ insurance and genuine reason‘ application form on the insurance and genuine reason page. Fulfilment of this requirement is provided by the HSSA. Premium and Platinum members can fulfil their Victorian Category 1 & 2 collection licenses through duel memberships with Australian Hunters and HSSA. Free Member HuntsĪll members can host and attend other members free hunts through our Host A Hunt program. Public liability insurance is issued by the HSSA. Through the Premium and Platinum duel Australian Hunters and HSSA membership tiers members are covered for up to $20 million worth of damagers. Genuine reason is a requirement for owning a firearm, and should not be confused with game licences.
The genuine reason offered via Australian Hunters club membership is provided through a duel HSSA membership (Premium and Platinum tiers) and supports QLD – Category A, B, M, VIC – Category A, B and NSW A, B (conditional on having an R-license) firearm license applications. A club membership through a registered hunting body is one way to obtain a genuine reason to own a firearm. As a condition of getting and maintaining an active firearm license Australian law requires that you must have a ‘genuine reason’ for owning a firearm.
